dLocal expands alternative payment methods in Google Play Colombia

Google Play users in Colombia will be able to make payments in the application store with cash transactions through Efecty.

Colombia, May 9, 2023 – dLocal, a technology-first payments platform enabling global enterprise merchants to connect with billions of consumers in emerging markets, today announced the integration of new payment methods within Google Play.

With the incorporation of this new payment method, users who do not have access to traditional banking services or international credit cards will have more options to subscribe to Google Play services. According to recent studies, more than 17% of eCommerce payments in the region are still done using cash.

The cash payment option, which is already available and enabled for all users of the application, generates a payment receipt with which consumers can pay at any of the 11,000 Efecty payment points in the country.

dLocal and Google have been working on integrations with new alternative payment methods since 2020, when Google launched local card payment methods in Brazil for Play/YouTube, integrating it immediately after Google Ads and Google Cloud. Since then, the association has expanded to several countries in Latin America and Africa, including countries such as Chile, Colombia and Nigeria.
